XCIXGame Studio
Est. MMXIV — Independent Game Atelier

We build the ninety-ninth world.

XCNIC is a small studio working at the intersection of classical narrative structure and playable systems. Every title is treated as a bound volume: numbered, edited, and released only when it can be reread.

Selected Works

Narrative / Exploration

The Scriptorium

A meditative simulation of transcription, correction, and illumination. Players copy a dying manuscript while managing ink, light, and the patience of their own hands.

MMXXII — PC / SwitchRead leaf →
Mystery / Margin Text

Margin Notes

A game told entirely in annotation. Climb through centuries of reader commentary, recover erased symbols, and reconstruct a story no single edition ever contained.

MMXX — Browser / iOSRead leaf →
Puzzle / Acoustics

Silent Folio

No HUD, no text boxes. Only resonance. Solve rooms by listening to how architecture remembers sound, and learn to play silence as an instrument.

MMXXIII — PCRead leaf →
Long-form / Procedural

Codex 99

An episodic atlas-generator. Each session prints a new province of an impossible encyclopedia; some pages contradict earlier ones on purpose.

The Studio Itself

XCNIC began as a footnote. Three people, one rented reading room, and a rule: no project ships until it can be opened again in ten years without embarrassment. We design games the way editors design collected works — slowly, with margins.

We do not separate writer, programmer, and typesetter. Everyone here sets type, writes logic, and argues about pacing. The result is smaller than a studio should be, and stranger than a studio is allowed to be.

Our tools are ordinary. Our constraint is not. Nothing leaves the table until it earns its Roman numeral.

Residents & Guests

E

Eleanor Vance

Keeper of Manuscripts

Former archivist. Owns the timeline, the canon, and the red pencil. Believes a save file is a kind of footnote.

J

Julian Moss

Master Illuminator

Light, interface, and ritual. Builds menus that feel lit by candlelight and pauses that feel edited.

C

Clara Bennett

Lexicographer of Worlds

Writes the second reading, not the first. Dialogue here reads like correspondence, not exposition.
